Drinking water in 10 rural centers
Drinking water in 10 rural centers: a short retrospective on a year’s achievements in Burkina Faso
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Burkina Faso government financed the building, rehabilitation, and operation of 10 rural centers. The project actually started in September 2014. Almost 70.000 rural inhabitants in Bouroum, Bourzanga, Dablo, Mané, Nagbingou, Nasséré, Pensa, Rouko, Tougouri and Ziga are now offered a sustainable drinking water supply.
First year of operating is very positive according to our subsidiary in Burkina Faso in charge of operations. Approximate supply for each center is 35m3 a day thanks to about fifty water fountains equipped with water meters for constant monitoring. This project also allowed the creation of about 60 local jobs: maintenance technicians, water vendor, handlers.
Access to drinking water in rural area is critical to anchor populations and slow down migration towards big urban centers. It is an issue all public authorities aim for to insure a sane and smooth development. Improving access to drinking water is Vergnet Hydro’s and its partners’ daily commitment.
