DWS scaled to meet the needs of locals through to 2040, in other words, to supply almost 80,000 people
Chad’s Ministry of Economy, Development Planning and International Cooperation has just awarded a contract to supply and install 4 drinking water supply systems (DWS) to a consortium bringing together the companies VERGNET HYDRO (project leader) and SETRA (N’Djamena, Chad). This equipment will provide a long-term and continual water supply to 47,000 inhabitants of Chad’s Logone Occidental region. “These are the first DWS installed in Chad by VERGNET HYDRO. And we are particularly proud that this first experience is part of the ambitious Food and Nutrition Security Implementation Plan set up by the 11th European Development Fund (European Union)”, commented Romain DUBREUIL, Area Manager at VERGNET HYDRO. All the installations will be up and running by November 2023.
VERGNET HYDRO is steering the project and supplying the equipment. SETRA is carrying out the work. 4 water towers of 50 to 150 m³, perched 12 metres high, will supply 44 community standpipes and 314 private connections through 32 km of pipework. Underground water will be collected through five submersible electric pumps and then treated at four chlorine dosing stations (by injection). “To ensure the installed equipment lasts, these DWS have been scaled to meet the needs of these 4 municipalities through to 2040, in other words, to supply almost 80,000 people,” explained Samuel COLOMBAT, VERGNET HYDRO Bids and Projects Officer. This contract also includes setting up an after sales service and the training of four local maintenance technicians.
Launch of a second DWS project in Chad in the very near future
“In the very near future, we should be announcing the launch of a second DWS project in Chad, this one as part of the Semi-urban and Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation programme run by Chad’s government and backed by the African Development Bank (AfDB),” added Romain DUBREUIL.
