Drinking water supply systems: healthy villages and schools
Vergnet Hydro contributes to the “Healthy villages and schools” programme in the Democratic Republic of Congo
This programme directed by the Ministry of Health in partnership with Unicef, focuses on promoting measures that prevent contaminating available sources of water. It also involves communities and users in the design, creation and supervision of the missions.
When communities achieve expected hygiene standards according to targets set by the government and Unicef, they receive a “clean village” or “clean school” certificate. In order to achieve this level, 90% of the community must have family latrines, there must be a local health committee and a safe source of drinking water (such as a borehole with a hand-pump).
In the context of its expertise in drinking water supply systems, Vergnet Hydro has already supplied almost 2,000 hand-pumps for the “Healthy villages and schools ” programme.
